Since 2011 BluesinWijk is on the first Saturday of September one of the participants of the annual festival ColourRichinWijk. Initially with a stage on the Markt and in recent years at the Veldpoortbrug. The city centre of Wijk is then completely upside down and visited by thousands of visitors. In 2020 it was unfortunately cancelled because of Corona, but on Saturday, September 4, 2021, we hope to be there again with a blues stage from 14.00 to 18.00 hours. This time with two bands and two styles of music. For the Country loversKENTUCKY SNAKE OIL and for the blues fans. SUGARBOY and the SINNERS. Free entrance.
KENTUCKY SNAKE OIL. Swinging fiddle, splashing banjo, polyphonic singing and a rhythm that makes it impossible to sit still (but you have to sit still): Kentucky Snake Oil brings an energetic mix of Bluegrass, Country and American Folk music. The band plays a varied repertoire that includes songs by Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Hank Williams and Mumford & Sons.
SUGARBOY and the SINNERS. The band’s energetic live shows have earned them a solid reputation among long-time blues fans and young festival audiences alike. Their style is a modern mix of classic blues with soul, funk and rock ‘n roll. This diverse sound has earned the band festival spots along with acts such as Robert Cray, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Gov’t Mule, Status Quo and Walter Trout. Although the band has only been touring professionally since 2011, Sugar Boy and the Sinners have already played festivals and venues in Belgium, Germany, France, Italy and the United States. The long-awaited debut album was released in January 2014 with a release party at the world-famous Paradiso venue in Amsterdam.
