BLUESinWIJK 3 years

3 years BLUESinWIJK.

In April 2009 presented BLUESinWIJK her blues plans TOP-blues in Wijk; a stage for local and regional blues bands; a youth & blues programme and promoting the blues through film, workshops, lectures etc. The founders soon went through life as the “Wijkse bluesmen”. Anton Winkel is one of them and he tells enthusiastically about their success.

1 mei 2012: Our 3rd anniversary month of April is over. We look back on it with great satisfaction. LIGHTNIN’GUY on 11 April, with a surprising performance by Richard van Bergen, the master among Dutch blues guitarists; the B’EATERS on 12 April; a hugely successful photo auction (all photos sold!) and on 30 April BLUESMOTEL and the Pillars. We counted hundreds of happy blues fans at these free concerts, made some new friends, saw happy blues musicians and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Thank you very much!

1 april 2012:The idea to bring more good topblues to Wijk was in our heads for years. In 2008 Frans Hoving, Arie Verheul and I finally put our heads together and soon BLUESinWIJK was a fact. We sought contact with JazzbyDuurstede and from that came the plan to broaden the successful jazz festival with a bluespodium. The interest was enormous and many inhabitants of the neighbourhood spontaneously signed up as friends or sponsors. In 2010 we repeated the full blues with, if possible, even more success. Wijk was ready for its own blues club. Since 2011 we organise something with blues every month and this form is catching on very well. When we look back on 3 years BLUESinWIJK we have built a good reputation, we almost always draw full houses and our bluesprogramme is solid. Our blues festival planned for March 2012 in Cothen was actually the only real disappointment so far. We will not let the birth month of April go by unnoticed this year. We have a lot of free blues. On 11 April we had a fantastic performance by the bluestoppers Lightnin’Guy and Richard van Bergen, The whole month of April an exhibition of Cuby pictures in cafe ome Ko, on 21 April the auction of these photos with live blues at Café Ome Ko and on 30 April we close Queen’s daywith open air blues on the Market Square. As a dessert, on Saturday 19 May, we have the absolute top band of JULIAN SAS at the Calypso Theatre. We can’t make April 2012 any more fun.”
