‘Free Entrance’. We use for this Gospel&Bluesnight a very special way of ‘entrance fee’ … No obligation to send a ticket in advance, but payment according to your means. This way we can, out of social considerations and commitment, let as many fans as possible enjoy the night, even those who have less to spend. Visitors who can afford to miss a normal entrance fee are asked to do so by scanning a QR code (coming soon) or by placing it in a basket at the exit. The energy and fun splashes off the stage so you can’t help but get into the flow of this enthusiastic choir. Besides swinging and splashing, modest and small is also on the colorful musical palette of Elijah. The repertoire is broad, ranging from traditional gospel and world-famous soul hits to familiar pop songs and southern blues. Anyone introduced to the Elijah Gospel & Soul Choir cannot sit still. This gospel choir sparkles and swings. Elijah is invariably accompanied by its inspiring conductor Trea Kuijsten and virtuoso pianist/arranger Govert van der Kolm. Elijah has performed at the Uitmarkt in Amsterdam, is a frequent guest at the traditional Christmas market in Dordrecht and has provided backing vocals for Marc Broussard, Chi Coltrane, Dani Wilde and Handsome Poets at venues including Paradiso, De Melkweg , Luxor Live, North Sea Jazz and Bospop.
Roel Spanjers. Pianist and soulful Hammond player Roel Spanjers is a much sought-after live and studio (session) musician in the European rhythm & blues, soul and roots/Americana scene. He grew up with his father’s jazz at home and over the years developed into a versatile keyboard virtuoso with a great interest and love for roots music. Already at age 28 he toured all of Europe as a keyboardist with blues legend Luther Allison’s band and other greats such as Terry Evans, Curtis Salgado, Roscoe Chenier. But he was and is also active as a studio musician (Normaal, Julian Sas), session musician, guest musician, solo shows (New Orleans Voodoo), band member (Dyana Kurtz, Smokey Wilson, Captain Gumbo and J.W. Roy), frontman in his own band (Sunset Travelers from 2001) and theater shows with Frederique Spigt (Elvis). In 2011, he received a Dutch Blues Award in the keyboardist category. Soon he will release his new solo album Birdcatcher II, fulfilling a long-awaited promise: the successor to the obscure masterpiece Birdcatcher (2006).
Jolly Jumper & Big Moe. The blues duo Jolly Jumper & Big Moe belongs to the elite of Norwegian blues. For the past 30 years they have been one of the most popular and in-demand acts at festivals and club concerts. Kjell Inge Fischer Brovoll, vocals and harmonica and Jan Erik Moe guitar. Kjell and Moe welcome you with blues music during the walk-in and afterwards at the after party.
Stichting Concerten Grote Kerk Wijk bij Duurstede has a professional video recording system with which their concerts are recorded, broadcast live and saved in their You Tube channel. At the Gospel&BluesNight on November 29 this is also the case.
